The art of translating thoughts into words, an unassuming skill, is a superpower that spans time and space.
I’ve always written, first in journal form, then mirrored journal where I wrote in a whole notebook with flipped letters (meant to be read using a mirror), then blogs. I was not consistent when it came to blogs, due to other hobbies, but I didn’t quit writing. The types of blog I wrote were on personal topics to hobbyist to live advice. I didn’t have that much life experience to give life advice back then, but who didn’t think they knew what’s best when they were younger?
Five months ago, I picked up being a writer… well, not a writer in a technical sense, but with the inspiration to be a published author. I’ve always had grandiose world ideas with unlimited amount of stories that I’ve kept in my mind, but never once thought of putting any of them into worlds or drawings. A friend started his writer’s journey about two years ago and has shared with me what he’s done and invited me to join the journey. It took me two months to think about starting that journey.
Here I am five months later, with two novel ideas started each with their own magic and fantasy world with their own protagonist, but no where close to be done. Let’s just say that I’m great at starting new undertakings, but completing them takes an unhealthy amount of time. I have a better grip of what I should do, likely short stories, and taking five months to learn this is quite humbling. One would think that writing is as simple as speaking ones thoughts, but when it comes to story telling, that’s quite an art form that I’m not very familiar with.
I’ve given myself enough time to marinate in this hobby that I think it’ll stick for a longer time than most of my other short-lived hobbies. It’s why I’m also willing to write about it, in hopes that some time in the future, I can share where the journey’s taken me when I reached my first completion.
